"Beyond basic politeness, or an attempt to persuade me over to your side of a culinary issue, I would really love it if everyone would take a deep breath and remember one of the things food has power over: community. In this era of independence and individuality, I don’t want to lose sight of how significant a meal can be in terms of relationships. There’s a reason so many group celebrations involve food, aside from keeping blood sugar levels stabilized and alcohol absorbed. It goes back to that image of a village barbecue. I’m sure some members abstain from eating the lamb’s brain, or the pig’s intestine, or the ex-boyfriend’s heart, but everyone still finds a way to celebrate the occasion and participate. Bottom line: your choices and preferences are important, yes, but so is the camaraderie that can be gained over a meal." -Hospitality vs. Food Prefences (via foodriot)
